Our aim is to establish high levels of Wolbachia within the local mosquito population
Wolbachia mosquitoes are released with community support and government approval
Releases of mosquitoes with Wolbachia take place once a week for about 10-12 weeks.

Douglas Shire

With community support, we started releasing of mosquitoes with Wolbachia across Douglas Shire in October 2016.

We have completed the release-phase of our Port Douglas project and will continue to monitor Wolbachia levels in the following communities:

  • Port Douglas
  • Mossman
  • North Mossman
  • Mossman Gorge
  • Cooya Beach

We expect to see
Wolbachia sustained at high levels in the local mosquito population, reducing the risk of dengue, Zika, and other mosquito-borne viruses in these high-risk areas.
