Results show Yogyakarta trials are on track
After three months of releasing Wolbachia mosquitoes in Nogotirto and Kronggahan, the number of mosquitoes that carry Wolbachia is continuing to rise.
Recent results showed that 63% of the Aedes aegypti mosquitoes we collected in our Nogotirto release area carried Wolbachia. In our Kronggahan release area, 54% of mosquitoes carried Wolbachia. We expect these numbers will continue to increase in coming weeks.
Once almost all the mosquitoes in our release areas carry Wolbachia, we hope Wolbachia will remain in the population without the need for further releases. After the release period, we will continue to monitor how well Wolbachia is establishing in the local mosquito population and provide updates on the results.
