Releases complete on Tri Nguyen Island
We have now completed the release of Wolbachia mosquitoes on Tri Nguyen Island, on the south central coast of Vietnam.
After 27 weekly releases of Wolbachia mosquitoes, our monitoring shows that more than 80% of the local Aedes aegypti mosquito population carries Wolbachia. We hope that the wMel strain of Wolbachia will now continue to establish in the local mosquito population without the need for further releases. Once Wolbachia establishes, we expect the risk of dengue transmission on Tri Nguyen Island will be reduced.
We greatly appreciate the ongoing support of the local community for our field trial. We will continue to monitor the island’s mosquito population and provide further updates to the community and through our website.
