About us

The World Mosquito Program is a not-for-profit initiative that works to protect the global community from mosquito-borne diseases. Known until recently as the Eliminate Dengue Program (EDP), the World Mosquito Program (WMP) is led from Monash University in Melbourne, Australia.

An innovation of the World Mosquito Program, our Wolbachia method is a safe, natural and effective way to combat the threat of mosquito-borne diseases, such as Zika, dengue and chikungunya.

Since the establishment of our first project site in Northern Australia in 2011, EDP has undergone significant expansion from a small research project to become an international not-for-profit initiative operating in 10 countries.

In recent years, the initiative has grown from a single focus on dengue to include other mosquito-borne diseases such as Zika and chikungunya. That’s why as of September 2017, the Eliminate Dengue Program became known as the World Mosquito Program, a name that better reflects the scope of our global program delivery.

The World Mosquito Program is committed to strengthening the capacity of local communities around the world to reduce the threat of mosquito-borne diseases. Through collaboration and innovation, our global approach can help to protect local communities from mosquito-borne diseases.
